Submission depends on the jurisdiction. Start at NASBA's CPA Exam jurisdiction directory: it identifies CPAES jurisdictions using CPA Portal and links other candidates to their board or processor. A convenient testing country does not change which board evaluates or licenses you.
HKICPA membership is not a current shortcut: the HKICPA-US IQAB agreement expired on December 31, 2022 without renewal, and HKICPA is absent from NASBA's current IQEX list. The CPA Exam Hong Kong hub owns broader context; this page owns the workflow. CPAPass supports study only after the authority route is viable and cannot choose the board or establish qualification.

Resolve Hong Kong education and close only documented gaps
Use the selected jurisdiction's instructions to identify an accepted evaluator. NIES exposes Apply Online from Services and Fees for supported jurisdictions, but does not serve every board. Confirm jurisdiction and report type before paying; one jurisdiction's report does not establish eligibility in another.
No universal credit-unit total applies to every Hong Kong degree. The evaluator converts the individual transcript and subject distribution for the selected jurisdiction. If the report satisfies its rule, submit it for eligibility; if deficient, complete only the named subject or unit gap and follow the update or re-evaluation instructions.
For NIES, provide the jurisdiction and report type, legal name on government ID, passport or accepted ID, every year of post-secondary records, official transcripts and diplomas through an accepted direct channel, English translations, and requested course descriptions. Other evaluators may differ.
The report establishes US education equivalency, not CPA Exam eligibility; the board or CPAES decides qualification. NIES says deficient candidates may study at recognised home-country institutions or accredited US schools, but the jurisdiction's coursework rules come first. Do not buy credits before the official deficiency is known.
NIES estimates six weeks after all required documents arrive and requires materials within 90 days. This excludes another evaluator, missing documents, credit completion, or the board decision. Use CPA exam requirements for questions and international CPA candidates for the broader sequence.

Follow ATT, payment, NTS and international booking in order
- ATT is an authority-to-NASBA handoff: after approval, the jurisdiction sends it to NASBA's National Candidate Database. Candidates do not upload ATT to Prometric, and it is not the scheduling document. After eligibility, use the official portal to apply and pay for one Exam section.
- Wait for View NTS. NASBA warns that a section ID may appear before Prometric receives the scheduling record. Save the NTS, check the name and section, and use its jurisdiction-specific expiration date before booking travel.
- Use the NTS to register with NASBA for a listed international country. The non-refundable extra fee is $390 per section, or $460 in India. Evaluation, coursework, application, Exam, travel, and change costs are separate and vary.
- Wait at least 24 hours after international registration, then schedule through Prometric. Hong Kong is not listed; Japan, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea are, but neither a seat nor entry is guaranteed. Plan by stage boundaries, not a promised finish date
- 1Do not combine evaluation, eligibility, NTS, and seat search into a guaranteed finish date. Each begins after a different owner has a complete file. NIES estimates about six weeks after complete documents; NASBA's CPA Portal flow allows CPAES up to six weeks after the report and application are complete. Other routes may differ.
- 2Missing credits add a separate academic stage shaped by course calendars, transcript delivery, evaluator updates, and authority review. When the NTS arrives, use its actual expiration date, which varies by jurisdiction. Apply only when preparation and travel fit that window.

After testing, Prometric sends Exam data to AICPA for scoring and quality review, then AICPA sends results to NASBA for processing and the jurisdiction channel. Do not expect an immediate result. Participating candidates check CPA Portal or CPA Mobile App; some jurisdictions use their own channel. Save the Score Notice when available: NASBA says it generally appears within 72 hours after the advisory score and is not stored indefinitely.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take the US CPA Exam in Hong Kong in 2026?
Do not assume that you can. Hong Kong was not included in NASBA's published international administration location list when this page was verified on August 22, 2026. Japan, the Philippines, and the Republic of Korea were listed, but a listed country is not a seat guarantee. Recheck the live NASBA list and Prometric availability after receiving the NTS.
Does HKICPA membership still provide an IQEX route?
The HKICPA and US IQAB agreement stated that it expired on December 31, 2022 and would not be renewed. HKICPA is not on NASBA's current IQEX professional-body list. Unless you separately qualify through a currently listed body, plan around the standard Uniform CPA Exam route and the requirements of a selected US jurisdiction.
Should I choose a US jurisdiction based on the easiest exam trip?
No. Choose by the license and practice goal, then verify education, residency, experience, and application requirements. Testing location is a later logistics decision and does not change the selected board's eligibility rules.
Who decides whether my Hong Kong education qualifies?
An evaluator accepted by the selected jurisdiction converts foreign education into a jurisdiction-specific US-equivalency report. That report does not declare CPA Exam eligibility. The selected board or CPAES compares it with that jurisdiction's rules and makes the eligibility decision. If education is deficient, complete only coursework the jurisdiction will accept, then follow its re-evaluation instructions.
What should a Hong Kong candidate budget for?
