Can a candidate in Qatar apply for the US CPA?
Yes, if you meet your chosen US board’s requirements. This applies to Qatari nationals and expatriates living in Qatar. Residence alone does not establish eligibility.
Check your education
Your degree, total hours and accounting/business subjects must meet the board’s rules. Non-US education needs an accepted evaluation.
Choose a US board first
Check residency, identification, evaluator and international-testing rules before you pay for an evaluation.
Plan through the license
Check how your work in Qatar can meet the experience and verifier rules, plus any additional education and ethics requirements.
Do I have to wait for certain dates?
No Qatar annual intake
Complete your eligibility file, receive approval, then apply for an exam section and obtain its Notice to Schedule (NTS).
Three separate clocks
Your NTS expiry, the section’s testing window and your passed-section credit deadline are different. A score-release cutoff is not an application deadline.
Your 2026 testing calendar
Core: AUD, FAR, REG. Discipline: choose BAR, ISC or TCP. Closed means Discipline testing is unavailable. Appointments remain subject to center availability.
AICPA must receive your Core exam file by the cutoff. Dates are targets and can change. The schedule changes from July 2027. Official dates
How far ahead should I prepare my application?
Allow time for your university and evaluator before board processing. Washington asks candidates to allow about four weeks after the file is complete and requires supporting documents within 45 days of applying. NIES has a separate 90-day document deadline. These are file deadlines, not annual admissions windows.

Qatar is absent from NASBA’s current list. A Doha Prometric center offering other tests does not establish CPA availability.

How do US states and credits work from Qatar?
Qatar does not assign you to a US state. You choose a board whose rules you can satisfy. The testing country does not issue your exam credits or your US license.
Academic credits
Coursework and US semester-hour equivalency. The evaluator checks your actual education against your board’s subject requirements.
Exam credits
Your jurisdiction records passed sections and their expiry. The clock varies by board. Washington uses 36 months from score release.
State license
Your US professional credential. Employer recognition in Qatar and local audit practice rights are separate questions.
Your scores remain attached to the Washington application. To pursue another state’s license, arrange a score transfer and meet the receiving board’s requirements. Credits and evaluations are not automatically accepted everywhere.
Score transfers · Washington’s credit windowWhat does Washington look for in education?
A qualifying bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s route with an accounting concentration or equivalent: 24 semester hours in accounting and 24 in business. Excess accounting hours may count toward business. A degree from Qatar or another country needs the prescribed evaluation; do not assume the university’s credit labels convert one-for-one.

How do I get my license after passing?
Four passes complete the exam requirement. Your US board still needs to approve the license application.
- 1
Complete exam and education requirements
Pass AUD, FAR, REG and one Discipline within your board’s credit window. Close any remaining education gap for licensure.
- 2
Document your qualifying experience
Work in Qatar may count if its duties, duration and verification satisfy the US board. Confirm the verifier requirements before relying on a local supervisor.
- 3
Complete ethics and apply for the license
Submit required education, scores, experience evidence, ethics results, declarations and fees to the board or its licensing service.
- 4
Receive approval and maintain the credential
Confirm that the license has been issued before using the licensed title. Keep up with renewal and continuing professional education.
Concrete example: Washington’s license paths
| Education | Minimum experience |
|---|---|
| Bachelor’s degree | 24 months and 4,000 hours |
| Post-bachelor’s degree | 12 months and 2,000 hours |
| Bachelor’s plus 30 semester hours | 12 months and 2,000 hours; education option expires after 31 Dec 2035 |
Washington requires qualifying US CPA verification, including at least five years of the prescribed licensure history. A Qatar job title or another accounting credential alone does not satisfy this rule. It also requires at least 90% on a course covering the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct.
Want to sign audits in Qatar?
Follow Qatar’s separate auditor registration process. A US CPA license does not automatically grant local audit-signing rights; MOCI lists its own qualifications, experience and registration documents.

A posting that says “CPA” may not specify the US credential. “CPA, ACCA or CA” lists alternatives. Only explicit US CPA wording establishes that distinction; it still may be preferred rather than mandatory.

- Can I apply from Qatar and take the US CPA Exam in Doha?
- You can apply from Qatar if you meet a participating US board’s rules. Qatar is not on NASBA’s reviewed international CPA testing-country list. Plan an appointment in an approved country such as Bahrain, the UAE or Saudi Arabia.
- Are there fixed application dates for Qatar candidates?
- There is no Qatar-specific annual intake. Apply when your chosen board’s eligibility file is ready. In 2026, Core testing is available throughout the year and Discipline testing is in January, April, July and October, subject to appointments and your NTS validity.
- Can I choose any US state or use credits from another state?
- Choose a jurisdiction whose education, identification, residency and licensing requirements you can satisfy. It must participate in international testing if you plan to test internationally. Passed-section credit transfers require the receiving board’s acceptance; academic evaluation and licensing rules can differ.
- Will my Qatar degree and Qatar work experience count?
- A board-approved evaluator assesses non-US education against the chosen jurisdiction’s rules. Qatar-based work may qualify if the board accepts its duties, duration and verification. Neither a degree nor an employer’s location alone confirms eligibility.
- Does passing the US CPA Exam let me sign audits in Qatar?
- No. Passing the exam comes before US state licensure. Qatar auditor registration is a separate MOCI process; US exam credits and a US license do not automatically grant local audit practice rights.
- How many jobs in Qatar require a US CPA?
- A verified Qatar-wide total is not available in this guide. In the reviewed search snapshot, Bayt showed 44 matches for “cpa accountant” in Qatar, including 22 in its past-30-days filter. Those matches include general accounting roles and are not a count of jobs requiring a US CPA.
Sources and how to read the data
Board rules and appointments can change. Job counts are a reviewed search snapshot, not live vacancy totals; QFC figures describe the stated historical period. A change in broad employment does not prove a change in US CPA vacancies.
